Use up all the Satin hands scrub

Down to the last bit of scrub in your Mary Kay Satin Hands set? Leave nothing to waste! After buying your new bottle of scrub (or the complete set if ready) - use the last bit of the Satin Hands scrub in the tub. Add a bit of water to it, and shake! Ready to be used just like Mary Kay fragrance bath scrubs! A little bit goes a long, long way!

Enjoy!

Always nice to save money! The more you save on even little things add up! That gives us more $$ to spend on those things to take care of our skin. Found this neat site and thought would just pass it on -

Remember, no matter what color palette you choose for your skin complexion, the most important part of face and body care is what is under all those lovely eye, cheek, and lip colors! That is the canvas you work from.

I have started using the new primer from Mary Kay and will say, it gives me a flawless canvas to begin adding foundation (check out the NEW liquid foundation!), eye and cheek colors, and the final touch of lip colors. Check out my Mary Kay website to see all the new items! Have fun with the virtual makeover, and always try before you buy!

Be lovely and true to you!

Winter Dry hands

Winter is truly here in SW Ohio and with it comes very dry hands! I am either at the computer writing, working with paper, or handling fabric in the sewing studio. ALL suck the moisture from my hands.

Every morning I reach for my Mary Kay Satin hands set. The softening emollient, followed by the hand scubbie - rinse and pat dry. Ready to lather on the hand cream! What a difference this morning ritual makes during the day. Hands feel softer AND look at little younger (which is certainly what I need!). Throughout the day, I will reach for the hand cream as needed. There are certainly scientific tests behind how the entire set works, but for me - I am just glad it works!

Have a happy PINK day!

Eliminate Winter Dull Skin

Winter brings dryer air, cold outside and warm inside, creating duller looking skin. To combat this, I always begin with a good cleansing and moisturizing routine, both day and night. Even in the winter I want to use a moisturizer with SPF to protect against UV rays and the environment. Whether you use the Timewise Miracle Set, Velocity, or basic skin care set - your skin will love you!

As a Mary Kay consultant I pamper others, and help them define specific problem areas. Time for my own pampering session! After a good cleansing, I headed for the microdermabrasion set. Get rid of all that dead skin and down to the new! Next came a thick emollient cream. Lathered it all over the face. Gently heated a washcloth in the microwave so warm to the touch and just laid on my face for about 15 minutes. I could just feel the emollient warming up and slowly melting into my skin! Finished off with a rich moisturizer and night solution. Let that skin repair!

Ever tried making your own body lotion? Plenty of recipes online but be sure to add germaben II, a preservative of sorts. The soft lotion and continual dipping with hands is a great place for bacteria to breed! You don't want that on your skin! Several nice links:

Morning brings softer, and fresher looking skin. No time to stop! Foundation will not only even out skin tones, but protects against all the environmental gunk! Just in time for winter is the limited edition Mary Kay liquid illuminator. Try shade 1 on your entire face before adding moisturizer to brighten up the face and get some highlights. Rather have a nice summery bronzed look? Then jump to the limited edition shade 2 and use as a bronzer. Try adding shade 2 with your body moisturizer and get that summer glow all over!

My skin needs as much care in the winter as the summer, but of a different type. Might even be time to change foundation color.

Enjoy your own pampering session!

When to toss out that make-up?

OK, so it is nice to hang on to our make-up and beauty items to get that very last drop! In our economy, we really want things to last as long as possible. However, there are times we must close our eyes and TOSS OUT! In reality, some older ones are just adding bacteria to our faces, and bodies. Not a pretty thought!

I am not a chemist, cosmetologist, eye Dr, medical doctor - and the following information should have a disclaimer I suppose. Use your good judgement and in doubt, always ask your own dermatologist, doctor, eye doctor, etc. - I just share some information I have tried to follow and information I have gleaned. Gather your information and just be safe!

Mascara is a huge culprit in adding bacteria to the eye area. As the brush goes in and out daily, bacteria collects on the brush. Yes, only you are using it, however it still gathers bacteria along the way. This can cause redness, and of course that clumping and thickness on the brush. So, itching, redness, even conjunctivitis of the eye can be caused. So, toss out and get a new tube about every two to three months.

Concealer is meant to cover blemishes, redness - not cause it. Have you ever noticed a shifting of color over time? Toss it! Get a new one and don't add the bacteria to your skin. If you have any in powder or stick form, the shelf life can be up to several years but keep a watch on it.

Foundation is something that bacteria just loves! When you use the water-based, oh they are so happy day after day. Once opened and you begin using it, the growth begins. Replace about every 6 to 12 months. Unopened, they can last for several years. Powder foundation is an exception as mineral based, and not mostly water based. Just be safe and check the amount of water-base in your powder foundation. Be safe!

Using the powder foundation? Clean the brush often! They can last for years and years, but clean often with a mild hair shampoo. To dry, let them stand upright and not on the brushes. If using the foundation sponges, toss and get new ones often. They just hold that bacteria.

Cheek color is about the same as the powder foundation. Watch for how much water-base is in for the bacteria to love and grow.

Eye shadow - replace about every 3 or 6 months. Remember, this is going onto your eye. Eye shadow brushes? Clean often and replace when needed.

Eyeliners replace about every 3 or so months. Again, going on the eye and collecting bacteria daily.

Nail polish is something that just does not go bad from bacteria. It may dry up on you, and become thick. Just watch for that.

The icing on the cake - lipstick, lip gloss - They contain little water so bacteria risk is low. Should last about a year, but watch if you have been sick constantly or cold sores. Then what you put on your mouth during that time, gets those same germs. Who needs the same shade for years anyway? Spice it up - buy a new shade!

Be safe - be pretty - and go with confidence!

Dryness Under the Eyes

Feels like sandpaper just attached under my eyes overnight!

Not a normal issue for me and will reach for my tried-and-true MK product, but talking to eye doctor realized we definitely lack oil glands under the eyes! Lack of oil producing glands lead to extreme dryness. Also (and I certainly didn't want to hear this one!) - aging reduces oil glands and that leads to even more dryness. No matter how much we want to "age gracefully", let's do it with confidence and with safety!

There can always be a lot of factors, like allergies, excessive crying, and changes in our skin. Check with a Doctor, if necessary, to see what might be yours, and go from there.
  • Watch products you put around the eyes - make sure they are safe for the eyes.
  • When putting any moisturizer, gel, make-up, anything around the eyes, then use the ring fingers. They exert the least amount of pressure. Let's not create more wrinkles and stretch our skin anymore than we have to!
  • Instead of rubbing anything in, just pat it on gently. Again, let's moisturize but not increase the damage.
There are at least 3 parts of the body that have less glands and show age the fastest - eyes, throat, and hands.
Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!
